Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh has asked Khanh Hoa provincial authorities to investigate the case where a tourism firm continued to encroach on Nha Trang Bay since last October.
Champarama Travel JS Company poured stone and soil into Nha Trang Bay to absorb over 17,500 square metres
The authorities of Khanh Hoa Province were asked to strictly deal with any violation and file a report to the prime minister by May 1.
In October 2017, Champarama Travel Joint Stock Company was found to have poured stone and soil into the bay to create over 17,500 square metres for its Champarama Resort & Spa project.
According to Khanh Hoa Province’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment, local authorities have decided to fine the company a total VND105 million (USD4,772) for its violations. The company was also asked to stop the violation and restore the bay to its previous condition before October 16.
Champarama explained that the encroachment was only a mistake and they had restored the environment and that they had implemented an environmental monitoring programme.
Vo Tan Thai, Director of the Department Natural Resources and Environment, said that the environment would not suffer from any serious consequences from the encroachment.
