Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang on May 29 led a Party and State delegation to visit and extend Vesak greetings to Most Venerable Thich Giac Quang, Vice Supreme Patriarch of the Validation Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, on the occasion of Vesak 2026 (Buddhist Calendar 2570).

Joining the delegation were Deputy Minister of Ethnic and Religious Affairs Nguyen Hai Trung, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Hoang Cong Thuy, and Hue People's Committee Chairman Nguyen Khac Toan.

On behalf of the Party, State and the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and with his personal respect and affection, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang wished Most Venerable Thich Giac Quang good health, peace and continued wisdom in guiding monks, nuns and Buddhist followers along the path of serving both the Dharma and the nation.

He also extended wishes for a peaceful, joyful and happy Vesak season to all monks, nuns and Buddhist followers of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Hue.

The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged and highly appreciated the contributions made by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha to society and the country in recent years. He noted that the Sangha has worked closely with authorities at all levels in social welfare activities, contributing to a prosperous and happy Vietnam.

He expressed hope that, in his leadership role within the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Most Venerable Thich Giac Quang, together with senior clergy, would successfully organize the Hue Buddhist Congress for the 2026-2031 term, contributing to the success of the 10th National Buddhist Congress for the same period.

The Deputy Prime Minister also encouraged Buddhist leaders to continue guiding monks, nuns and followers in promoting engaged Buddhism and working alongside local authorities to implement social welfare policies, preserve cultural identity and strengthen national unity.

Recognizing Hue’s Buddhist heritage

uring a separate visit to Most Venerable Thich Khe Chon, Vice Chairman of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and Head of the Sangha's Hue chapter, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang conveyed his best wishes for a peaceful, successful and joyful Vesak season.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Hue is widely regarded as one of Vietnam’s major Buddhist centers. Buddhism in Hue not only preserves invaluable tangible and intangible cultural heritage but has also long nurtured patriotism and national spirit.

He praised the Hue chapter of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, along with local monks, nuns and followers, for consistently complying with Party guidelines and State policies while actively participating in patriotic movements, rural development, urban modernization and charitable activities supporting disadvantaged communities.

“These meaningful contributions truly reflect the long-standing tradition of ‘protecting the nation and serving the people’ that Vietnamese Buddhism has upheld for centuries,” he said.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed hope that Most Venerable Thich Khe Chon and the leadership of the Hue Buddhist Sangha would continue promoting Buddhism’s positive traditions, adhering to the guiding principle of “Dharma - Nation - Socialism,” participating in cultural preservation, environmental protection and local socio-economic development.

Encouraging greater contributions in culture and education

Later the same day, the delegation visited Tuong Van Patriarchal Temple, where Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang extended Vesak greetings to the temple’s abbot, monks, nuns and Buddhist followers.

He commended the temple’s active engagement in social welfare, humanitarian work, support for disadvantaged people and efforts to preserve local cultural traditions.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed hope that Most Venerable Thich Chon Te and the clergy of Tuong Van Patriarchal Temple would continue making greater contributions in the fields of culture, education, ethics and spiritual development, helping strengthen the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha while guiding followers to uphold the principle of “Dharma - Nation - Socialism.”

He also encouraged Buddhist leaders to continue serving as a bridge for spreading positive moral values, promoting compliance with Party policies and State laws, and actively participating in patriotic movements within local communities.
