A diamond-encrusted Koenigsegg Regera, valued at nearly $4 million, made a dazzling appearance in Ho Chi Minh City during the Gumball 3000 rally on September 14-15.
The rally drew significant attention, showcasing an array of expensive supercars, including familiar models like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Lamborghini Urus, along with foreign tycoons bringing cars worth millions of dollars.
The Koenigsegg Regera owned by a Canadian tycoon is one of the most notable cars, valued at about $4 million. Although not the most expensive car at Gumball 3000, this supercar stands out with its exterior coated in diamond dust, worth approximately $400,000.
The specific type of diamonds used on the car is not mentioned, but the amount is minimal, with only certain areas on the front bumper and hood adorned with diamond dust. These details are difficult to notice with the naked eye, even in bright sunlight.
Diamond embellishment is a popular indulgence among North American elites. Beyond supercars, many wealthy individuals and celebrities choose to adorn their teeth with diamonds to flaunt their opulent lifestyles.
This personalized megacar (a car with over 1 megawatt of power) includes the "Ghost Package," enhancing its aesthetic appeal and sporty appearance. The package cost the owner more than $50,000 and includes a front splitter, extended side skirts, and front and rear winglets.
As part of the “Honey” edition, both sides of the car feature a "Honey" badge painted in blue, matching the car’s exterior. Uniquely, the car's rear logo uses TFT scan technology: scanning the code with a smartphone triggers a video of Koenigsegg’s founder introducing the car, accompanied by a song called “Honey” composed by his son.
The Koenigsegg Regera, similar to the one owned by Vietnamese tycoon Hoang Kim Khanh, is also equipped with "Tresex Aircore Carbon" wheels, 19 inches in the front and 20 inches in the back, with striking blue brake calipers for an added flair. These wheels require careful handling, as any damage necessitates complete replacement.
The Koenigsegg Regera is powered by a twin-turbo 5.0-liter V8 engine, delivering 1,100 horsepower and 1,280 Nm of torque, combined with three YASA electric motors that generate an additional 697 horsepower and 900 Nm of torque. This enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, with a top speed of 400 km/h.
A YASA 400 motor located on the crankshaft serves as both a generator and starter, while two YASA 750 motors on the wheel axle provide torque and manage traction. The electric motors are powered by a 4.5 kWh, 800V battery developed by Rimac, a manufacturer known for high-performance electric cars.
Besides the "Honey" edition Koenigsegg Regera, the Canadian tycoon also owns several other million-dollar supercars, including the Lamborghini Centenario, Pagani Huayra, and McLaren Speedtail.
In Vietnam, tycoon Hoang Kim Khanh owns a Koenigsegg Regera with a red carbon fiber exterior, although he did not participate in the Gumball 3000 rally.
