The Politburo will next month decide on disciplinary action against Tat Thanh Cang, permanent deputy secretary of the HCMC Party Committee, over his role in a controversial land transfer deal, based on the proposal of the Party Central Committee's Inspection Commission, Thanh Nien newspaper reported, citing HCMC Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Thien Nhan.

Tat Thanh Cang, permanent deputy secretary of the HCMC Party Committee

On November 27, the HCMC delegation of National Assembly deputies, including HCMC Party Committee Secretary Nhan; Van Thi Bach Tuyet, deputy head of the HCMC delegation of NA deputies; and Tran Anh Tuan, acting director of the HCMC Institute for Research and Development, attended a meeting with residents in Hoc Mon District.

Answering local voters’ questions on the handling of Cang’s violations, Nhan said inspectors of the municipal Party Committee had detected Cang’s violations while inspecting companies under the management of the Party committee.

The HCMC Party Committee conducted an inspection into Cang’s actions from October last year to April this year and found that he had violated State regulations on asset management and property investment.

However, Cang is also a member of the Party Central Committee, so the disciplinary action against him must be decided by the Politburo.

Nhan confirmed that the fight against corruption is a long-term mission and there is no “no-go area” in this fight, as Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong had stated earlier.

At the meeting, resident Le Tan Hung of Tan Hiep Commune questioned the handling of complaints of residents in District 2 affected by the Thu Thiem New Urban Area project. Many Hoc Mon residents had proposed quickly addressing issues with the project.

In response, Nhan noted that the Government Inspectorate had previously published the results of an inspection into the project. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment had also determined the boundary of the project.

The city is consulting the relevant ministries, agencies and individuals to promptly work out the compensation plan for the affected households.
