The story was shared by Luc Thi Thu Hoai, who lives in Dong Tam ward, Yen Bai city. Mickey had been living with her mother-in-law and brother-in-law for over a year, and the family had grown quite fond of the smart and obedient dog.

On the night of September 9, super typhoon Yagi triggered a massive landslide, completely destroying their home. Tragically, Hoai's mother-in-law and brother-in-law did not survive the disaster.

"Twenty hours after the disaster, rescue teams were finally able to recover my mother and brother's bodies for burial. The house was reduced to rubble, with no sign of life," Hoai recalled.

As the storm subsided, the residents in the area had to evacuate. Hoai’s husband, who lived about 3 kilometers away, would occasionally visit to clear the debris, but he didn’t hear any signs of life, including no barking from Mickey.

Before that, when he checked the dog’s kennel, he found the leash broken and assumed that Mickey had escaped to safety on a nearby hill.

However, on September 18 - exactly 9 days after the house collapsed - a neighbor called Hoai's husband, saying they had occasionally heard faint barking sounds from the property.

Her husband rushed over, and with the neighbor’s help, they began digging and searching through the rubble. Eventually, they found Mickey trapped in the mud a few meters from his kennel.

"When we found him, Mickey was buried in mud, with only his head sticking out to breathe. He had no food or water, and his tail, legs, and eyes were injured, but he was still fighting to stay alive. My husband was overjoyed to have found and saved the last living memory of his mother and brother," Hoai shared.

Mickey was immediately cleaned and taken to a veterinary hospital. After two weeks of intensive care, he made a miraculous recovery and was able to eat, drink, and run again.

Hoai and her husband decided to take Mickey back to their mother’s old house.

“Mickey is the last memory of my mother and brother, so my husband wants him to stay there and watch over the house. He was deeply moved by Mickey’s incredible survival amidst the devastation,” Hoai said.

Sharing the story of Mickey’s will to survive on social media, Hoai expressed a message of hope: “No matter how hard life gets, always hold on to hope because a brighter tomorrow is waiting for us.”
