Many households in the south-western region are hunting rats using their dogs.

At this time of the year, besides catching fish and shrimps, people in many localities of the south-western region can improve their income by hunting rats.

When the floods come, it is the ideal time for locals to hunt rice field rats for eating. During this time, the rats are forced to leave their holes and this is the perfect time to catch them.

There are several ways to catch rats, including setting traps, using arrows or dogs and even sling-shots. This year, many people are using dogs for this work.

Rat dishes at restaurants and hotels cost from VND50,000-VND60,000 per kilogramme, meaning local people can earn up to nearly VND1 million (USD47.6) per day.
