Firefighters said the fire broke out when a group of welders and workers hired to renovate the restaurant were installing a styrofoam ceiling and soundproof materials, and it quickly engulfed the entire restaurant.

As the restaurant has only one door to escape, the welders and workers rushed to the toilet and all were suffocated.

Pham Huu Khanh Duy, the owner of the restaurant, was among the deceased.

Police are investigating further into the case.

Vietnam reported more than 2,900 fire incidents in the first nine months of this year, which killed 73 people and caused damage worth around 1.6 trillion VND (68.6 million USD), according to the Fire Prevention, Fighting and Rescue Police Department.-VNA
