The Mekong Delta province of Long An has been making preparations to build a biotechnology centre for the Dong Thap Muoi (Plain of Reeds) region, according to Pham Van Ranh, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee.
The project will cost 700 billion VND (approximately 31 million USD) to be sourced from the central and local budgets and other sources.
Covering 53,000 sq.m in Thanh Hung commune, Kien Tuong town, the centre will include laboratories, facilities for experimental production, training and technology transfer, and a product and service exhibition area.
The project aims to research and preserve varieties and genes of rare animals and plants, contributing to conserving the biodiversity of Dong Thap Muoi and developing new varieties serving the region’s agricultural restructuring.
It will support domestic and foreign organisations and individuals in seeking investment opportunities in the area of biotechnology, while training scientists and experts in this field.
