This is attributable to the recognition of the Dong Van Karst Plateau as a Global Network of National Geopark. Thanks to this, the locality hopes to welcome more tourists in the future.

In recent years, there have been more and more tourists, especially foreign ones, coming to Ha Giang. In 2018, the northern province of Ha Giang welcomed over 1 million tourists. The Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark is expected to boost local tourism.

In the first three months of this year, Ha Giang welcomed nearly 300,000 arrivals. In 2018, the local tourism sector raked in nearly 1 trillion VND. Increasing tourism also offers a good opportunity for locals to improve their life by providing services such as homestays.

Covering a total area of over 2,300 sq.km, the Dong Van Karst Plateau is 80 percent limestone and contains the fossils of thousands of species of prehistoric creatures from 400-600 million years ago.

It was recognised by UNESCO as a member of the Global Network of National Geoparks in 2010 and received the title again for the 2015-2018 period.

The site is expected to welcome some 1.1 million visitors by 2030. –VNA
