Viet Nam’s role and position was recognised and highly appreciated by the leaders of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States of America (USA), as well as the international community, spokesperson of Việt Nam’s Foreign Ministry Le Thi Thu Hang has said.
In response to reporters’ queries on the DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit in Viet Nam on February 27-28, the spokesperson said Viet Nam closely followed this important event over the past two days, along with the international community.
Viet Nam has been consistent in supporting the peace process and denuclearisation on the Korean Peninsula, she stressed.
The spokesperson noted that Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump affirmed the meeting in Hanoi was an important step in the process of dialogue between the two sides.
Through dialogue at the summit, the two leaders made efforts to discuss several important issues relating to peace and denuclearisation on the Korean Peninsula.
As the host of the summit, Viet Nam has spared no efforts to prepare carefully to ensure absolute safety and security for the event, demonstrating its external policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, co-operation and development; as well as being a responsible member of the international community, Hang said.
Viet Nam shares the hopes of the international community that the parties will persistently pursue dialogue to resolve issues on the Korean Peninsula and enhance relations between the DPRK and the US, the spokesperson said.
She stressed Viet Nam is willing to play a constructive role in building peace and co-ordinating to promote the peace process on the Korean Peninsula. — VNS
