A grandmother and her granddaughter drowned yesterday while taking their buffalo to a grassy area near the Dao River in the central Ha Tinh Province.



The pond in Chu Prong District, Gia Lai Province, where the father and his twins were found drowned yesterday.


The incident took place at Thach Ha District’s Thach Van Commune at about 3pm.

After watching granddaughter Hoàng Thị Hiền take a false step and slip into the river, Le Thi Thai, 59, jumped into the water to rescue her. They both, however, drowned, not knowing how to swim in the deep waters.

Also yesterday, a father and his two sons were found drowned in Central Highlands province of Gia Lai’s Chu Prong District.

The victims were identified as Nguyen Ba Duy, 37, and his twins Nguyen Ba Thuan and Nguyen Ba Thang, 4, who all lived in Ia Ve Commune.

Duy’s wife went back to her homeland in Binh Dinh Province last Friday. When she returned home on Sunday, she couldn’t find her husband and sons. She then informed local authorities.

Nguyen Bau, head of Ia Ve Commune’s Police station, said relevant agencies and local residents had worked together to search for the victims. Yesterday morning, the dead bodies were found at a pond only 1km from their house.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
