This morning, November 28, the city launched the pilot e-ticket system for 24 bus routes, including one BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) route for around 6-9 months.

According to the Hanoi Department of Transport, Nguyen Phi Thuong, the BRT route and 13 normal bus routes have completed procedures for the e-ticket test first.

If the pilot is successful, the city will expand e-tickets to all of its 132 bus routes. This could result in the cutting of some 4,000 staff on these routes, cutting annual costs by VND300 billion (USD12.39 billion).

Hanoi has a total of 2,000 buses.

The capital’s buses receive a subsidy of VND2.75 trillion (USD113.63 million) this year compared to VND2.23 trillion per year between 2020 and 2022.
