VietNamNet Bridge – Workers in the finance, banking and insurance sectors in Vietnam had the highest per capita income in 2014, with VND195 million ($9,500) a year, followed by those in the information and communication sector with VND140 million (nearly $7,000), according to an annual report of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).

Regarding average turnover, workers in the industry of power and gas production and distribution earned average revenue of more than VND4.27 billion/person/year.

Laborers in the motorcycle industry also had an average turnover of over VND3.1 billion/person/year, followed by the mining and banking-finance sector.

According to the VCCI’s Annual Report on Vietnamese Enterprises 2015, which was released on April 13th, the average income of Vietnamese workers rose from VND28 million ($1,400) in 2007 to VND74,6 million ($3,200) in 2014.

In 2015, the minimum wage increased by 14.3% and in 2016 it is expected to rise by 12.4% compared to 2015.

Based on economic sectors, employees in the financial, banking and insurance sector had the highest per capita income in 2014, with VND195 million (over $9,000)/year.

Workers in the information and communications sector ranked second for average income, with VND140 million (nearly $7,000)/year.

Production and distribution of electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning earned the highest revenue, but the average income of workers in these sectors ranked third with VND135 million ($6,000)/year.

The income of workers in the processing industry was estimated at VND68 million (over $3,000)/year, higher than that of the agricultural, construction sectors.

The income of workers in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector declined from VND70 million ($3,500) in 2010 to VND53 million ($2,500)/year in 2014.

Laborers in the other service sector had the lowest per capita income, with only VND44 million ($2,100)/ year.

The average turnover of employees increased by 2.5 times over the period 2007- 2015, with the average rate of 12.1%/year, from about VND482 million ($29,000) in 2007 to VND1.207 billion ($50,000) in 2015.

The 2010- 2015 period witnessed a breakthrough in the average turnover of workers in state-owned enterprises. It is estimated that by 2015, the average turnover of employees in this sector increased nearly twice compared to the non-state and foreign-invested sectors.

The production and distribution of electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning are industries with the highest average revenue in 2014, with more than VND4.27 billion ($210,000)/person/year.

Coming second is the retail and wholesale trade and repair of motorcycles, with an average turnover of more than VND3.1 billion ($150,000)/person/year.

The mining sector ranked third with VND2.18 billion ($109,000)/person/year, followed by the finance-banking sector with over VND2 billion ($100,000)/person/year.

Three other sectors with the average turnover/worker of over VND1 billion ($50,000)/year are the arts, entertainment and recreation; real estate; and information and communication.

Notably, agriculture, forestry and fisheries is the sector with the second lowest per capita income, with VND269 million ($13,300)/person/year, just ahead of the administrative and support services with VND267 million ($13,000)/person/year.

The finance-banking sector is frequently in the group with the highest average revenue and ranked first in 2008, 2011.

However, the average turnover in this sector has fallen continuously in 2012- 2014.
