VietNamNet Bridge – The authorities of Khanh Hoa province have imposed a VND200 million (nearly $10,000) fine on the investor of Nha Trang Sao Culture-Entertainment-Sports Park for encroaching on Nha Trang Bay, a national heritage site.
According to the locals, the distance between Hon Do and Hon Chong islets in the bay of Nha Trang was originally hundreds of metres but it is being shortened and now locals can't anchor boats at the location anymore. They said construction waste was being dumped in the bay by the project.
Ngo Van Dung, director of Nha Trang Sao JSC, said they had dredged up dead coral and filled part of the Bay with sands and rocks to create a beach and this had received official approval.
Inspectors from Khanh Hoa Department of Construction previously discovered that the company had been building four construction works not listed in the approved plan, including a restaurant and a 60-metre-long embankment.
The construction of Nha Trang Sao, supposedly a cultural, entertainment and sport facility, was started on October 31. The $30m project covers 103,568 square metres. It is scheduled to be completed in 2016.
