Dat of Ha Noi Club earned 7.5 points after nine matches to win the gold medal.

He secured the victory on the final day by defeating teammate Nguyen Huynh Minh Thien in the ninth match.

Tran Ngoc Lan, also from Hanoi, came second. Lan took the lead from the first to the eighth round, but a draw with teammate Nguyen Hoang Hiep in the last game dropped her to the second position with seven points.

Tran Dang Minh Quang of Future Grandmaster Chess Club was third.

The tournament is Hanoi's only international event in which masters can get an Elo rating to improve their world ranking.

More than 100 local and international players competed in the event.
