Live 5G radio demo-system with Massive MIMO achieve 5G download speed (5.7Gbps) and ultra low latency was witnessed by participants at the first-ever demonstration of 5G in Viet Nam.

The demonstration was organised by the Authority of Radio Frequency Management (ARFM) and Ericsson on Wednesday in Ha Noi.

Ericsson’s 5G test bed includes all functionality required for pre-commercial trials and includes support for features such as beam forming and tracking, multi-user MIMO, multi-site transmission, ultra-lean design and dynamic TDD. The low latency and high reliability of 5G, coupled with intelligence residing in the cloud, will enable enhanced human-to-machine communication.

At the event, Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan said telecommunication and IT have played an important role as the foundation for the development of Industry 4.0 in Viet Nam.

“Providing and supporting broadband with high access speed not only aims to develop mobile information but also promotes IT development in various fields of social life,” Tuan said.

Tuan said 5G advances would be deployed by 2020. Several provinces and cities in Việt Nam have focused investment in the development of smart city, smart traffic, smart healthcare, and especially industrial production and services in the era of Industry 4.0.

“However, to promote IT development in Industry 4.0, we needed to ensure some important factors that are connected to high confidence, density, precision and low latency,” Tuan said.

“To meet these factors, we should speed up deploying 5G technology in daily life,” Tuan said.

“Vietnamese people today expect to communicate and access content in an instant, wherever they are. Our pioneering approach to 5G technology will not only improve this but also offer multiple benefits to our society and industry,” Doan Quang Hoan, director general of ARFM, said, adding that it would help drive many of core industries forward, particularly manufacturing, energy and healthcare, extending competiveness and opening up greater possibilities for Vietnamese enterprises.

“Ericsson’s 5G Business Potential Study showed that manufacturing, energy/utilities and public safety sectors represent the biggest opportunity for revenue created or enhanced by 5G in Viet Nam,” Denis Brunetti, president, Viet Nam and Myanmar, Ericsson, said.

“To capture this market potential requires investment in 5G technology and early planning, along with business development, go-to-market models and organisational adaptation,” Brunetti said.
