Salmon is hosting an exhibition featuring 25 high-quality prints of masterpieces by renowned Vietnamese painters such as Le Pho, Mai Trung Thu, and Vu Cao Dam. The event reimagines the display of these works as seen at the Aguttes auction house.
Taking place on January 7 at the University of Natural Sciences, the exhibition and art talk titled The Revival of Modern Art in Indochina commemorate the centennial anniversary of the Vietnam University of Fine Arts, formerly the École des Beaux-Arts de l’Indochine (1925–1945).
The event honors Vietnam’s modern art legacy and enriches knowledge of the Indochina Fine Arts School era, highlighting its golden age and the seamless blend of Western influences with Vietnamese artistic traditions.
The exhibition includes 25 prints selected from over 1,000 artworks by 70 artists previously authenticated by the Aguttes auction house. These works vividly capture the glory of Indochina’s art scene before 1945.
The showcased paintings demonstrate the sophisticated interplay between Western artistic techniques and Vietnamese cultural identity, marking a significant period in the development of modern art in Vietnam.
The accompanying Art Talk sessions will be led by Charlotte Aguttes-Reynier, an expert in Asian modern art and President of the Association of Asian Artists in Paris (AAP). Aguttes-Reynier has dedicated her research to Vietnamese modern artists such as Mai Trung Thu, Le Pho, and Vu Cao Dam.
Her discussions will delve into the broader context of Asian modern art and the remarkable contributions of Vietnamese artists to the global art scene.
