The "Spring Colors" exhibition by 14-year-old artist Nguyen Dang Hai Nam at the Exhibition House, 16 Ngo Quyen Street (Hanoi), showcases nearly 40 watercolor paintings capturing the simple yet poetic beauty of Vietnamese countryside and urban life.
Each piece serves as a heartfelt letter expressing love for his homeland, depicting serene and familiar scenes such as golden rice fields, winding village roads, and glimpses of grandmothers and mothers in cozy homes.
A blend of countryside and city life
Hai Nam’s works not only celebrate rural Vietnam but also offer vivid depictions of Hanoi's streets.
Old bicycles, sidewalk tea stalls, and the weathered brown tiles of ancient houses are brought to life through his delicate brushstrokes.
For the young artist, each painting tells a unique story, reflecting his passion for art and his deep connection to his surroundings.
“To me, painting is like breathing - it’s life itself,” Hai Nam shared.
“Every morning, as I admire the green leaves under the dawn light, I feel the tranquility of youth passing gently. Happiness fills me as I wander through small streets, discovering the vibrant colors of life and painting my own stories.
‘Spring Colors’ is the flame of passion that always burns brightly within me, inspiring hope for the future,” he added.
Renowned artist Le Tien Vuong praised Hai Nam's mastery of watercolor, noting that his works capture the beauty of nature while conveying warmth and peace.
“Hai Nam’s style reflects strong influences from traditional art, but it also incorporates a modern touch in his use of color and spatial perception,” Vuong remarked.
“His watercolor technique is highly sophisticated, skillfully layering subtle tones to create harmonious natural lighting effects. His ability to blend colors seamlessly showcases both artistry and sensitivity to color dynamics.”
