From May to November each year, numerous tourists flock to Cam Mountain (Tinh Bien town, An Giang province) – often referred to as the roof of the Mekong Delta – for nature experiences, particularly trekking tours. These tours involve hiking through forests, streams, and waterfalls, visiting fruit gardens, and camping on the mountain.
The primary destination for tourists is Bo Hong peak, standing at approximately 716 meters. It is the highest point on Cam Mountain and in the That Son range.
Duong Viet Anh, a photographer and tour guide at Cam Mountain tourist area, explained that the rainy season starts in May, bringing daytime temperatures of 26-28 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures of 19-20 degrees Celsius, making it an ideal time for outdoor exploration.
During this season, the route to the peak becomes lush and vibrant. Every morning, Bo Hong peak is enveloped in a sea of white clouds, creating an impressive scene for visitors.
The Cam Mountain trekking routes range from 5km to 42km, depending on visitors' preferences. The shorter routes (5-15km) can be completed in a day, taking visitors through palm fields, custard apple hills, Thanh Long stream, and ripe mango gardens.
The longer routes (21-42km) are spread over 2 days and 1 night. In addition to the previously mentioned spots, these routes include visits to Cay Que Temple, Huynh Long Temple, Bo Hong Peak, and an overnight stay either camping on the mountain or at a motel. Participants can also join a campfire.
The next morning, trekkers visit specialty fruit gardens, including strawberry, avocado, and durian gardens before heading back.
Tour guide Duong Viet Anh emphasized the importance of good health for the trekking journey. Water stations and specialty fruits such as palmyra, watermelon, strawberry, and avocado are available along the routes. The tour includes two guides and a medical care provider. The cost for a 7km trekking tour for a group of 10 people, including lunch, is around 700,000 VND per person.
Visitors are advised to bring cash, as most services on the trekking route require cash payments. It is suggested not to carry too much money, and small denominations are preferred. There is no need to bring much food and drinks, as services are available on the mountain.
Tourists should wear comfortable but modest clothing, as Cam Mountain is a spiritual tourist destination. Minimizing littering is crucial to maintaining environmental hygiene.
Cam Mountain is home to many religious and belief structures that attract tourists, including Van Linh Pagoda, Phat Lon Pagoda, Maitreya Buddha statue, and Thuy Liem Lake. Two major festivals also draw visitors: the Ba Chua Xu Festival and the Dolta Bull Racing Festival of the Khmer people.
An Giang province has planned and oriented the development of Cam Mountain as a pilgrimage, resort, and eco-tourism area, aiming to provide new, attractive, and interesting experiences for visitors.
According to the An Giang Trade and Investment Promotion Center, the trekking activity on Cam Mountain has been maintained for the past two years, attracting numerous tourists and athletes from various places.
