The Open 14 exhibition opened on the evening of March 19 at the Hanoi Aqua Center, bringing together the works of 16 contemporary artists from various generations. Each artist pursues a distinct creative path, forming a vivid panorama of modern Vietnamese art.
The exhibition features more than 100 artworks spanning diverse materials, including oil, lacquer, silk, and acrylic. From vibrant cityscapes to tranquil still lifes, the exhibition also presents nostalgic reflections on Hanoi - both past and present.
A harmonious blend of nature and humanity
Among the showcased works are several pieces by Nguyen Hong Tuan, whose art reflects a deep connection between humanity and nature. Known for his love of wandering and observing life’s beauty, Tuan captures everyday moments through plein air painting. His works reveal vivid and realistic stories, inviting viewers into the world around him.
One of his notable pieces, “Girl by the Table,” captures a quiet, contemplative scene with a sense of intimacy and grace. In another work, “Spring Flowers,” Tuan portrays the freshness and romantic spirit of nature in bloom, emphasizing the harmony between people and their surroundings.
Speaking about the exhibition, artist Duong Ngoc Lua expressed that Open 14 marks the group’s third collaborative event, fostering a space for art lovers to meet, share, and explore new ideas. Lua described the event as a testament to the endless journey of creativity, where each piece is a milestone in the pursuit of beauty and self-expression.
An intersection of styles and generations
The 16 participating artists come from diverse backgrounds and generations, each contributing a unique artistic language to the exhibition. Their styles range from realism and expressionism to surrealism, creating a multifaceted narrative of contemporary art. The colors, shapes, and lines within each piece reflect not only the artists’ souls but also evoke deep emotions and contemplation among viewers.
The exhibition’s diversity demonstrates that art has no limits, and each work is a reflection of the artist’s personal journey. Through powerful visual storytelling, the artists challenge perceptions and inspire new ways of seeing the world.
