Many large Facebook fan pages have been inaccessible since March 18, 2017. These include well known ones such as Chip Duong Pho, Kenny Sang, Cau Chuyen Cuoc Song (stories about life), Goc Am Thuc (corner for food lovers), Viet Designer, Truyen Tranh Nham Nhi (funny cartoons) and WeLax.

Even the fan page of Foody.vn, an app for searching for restaurants and shops, with more than 3 million likes, has also been locked.

The Facebook community and marketing directors have recently noticed the mysterious disappearance of many large fan pages with millions of likes each.

The disappearance of the fanpages followed the departure of a lot of other fan pages in early 2017, including Giang Popper (2.7 million likes) and Nghe Gi Coi Gi (1.1 million likes). This has caused concern in the marketing circle, especially after many investors accepted to spend big money to run ads on Facebook.

As usual, Facebook eliminated the fan pages without any notice in advance, warning or explanation. The common explanation for all cases is that the owners have violated the rules.

In fact, Facebook’s policy allows fan page administrators to appeal its decision, but the success rate is very low. In most cases, the appeals got answers from the automatic system, without any interactions.

An analyst said the eliminated fan pages had committed copyright infringement in using videos and music, and had posted fake news and reported false information.

Nguyen Ba Ngoc, a media expert from NBN Media, told the startup community Launch.vn that fan pages will be locked if most of the content is created by themselves and only some content is copied.

The Facebooker community has witnessed such elimination campaigns since 2014. A lot of fan pages with millions of likes have been taken down such as Beat.vn, Thuc Khuya Xem Bong Da (staying late at night to watch football) and 2! Idol.

William Nguyen, a member of ‘Cong dong nha quang cao tren Facebook Vietnam group (the community of advertisers on Facebook Vietnam), thinks the Facebook fan pages might have been eliminated because of copyright infringement.

“We have to follow the intellectual property laws as we have integrated into the world. You want to borrow content from other websites? Please share their original posts, or ask for their permission,” he said.

Meanwhile, an expert guessed that some fan pages have disappeared because their administrators did not apply necessary safety measures such as 2-layer passwords. As a result, the fan pages have been hacked.

In other cases, it might happen that the fan pages have violated the policies set by Facebook. For example, they played tricks to force users to like automatically, thus leading to a sharp increase in the number of likes within a short time.
