A herd of feral buffaloes in a commune in the central province of Quang Tri have recently attacked and injured several people.

The herd includes 7 to 8 buffaloes in a forest managed by Highway 9 Forestry Company have chased and attacked at least 10 people in the past few months.

One of the victims is Phan Doanh, 34, a worker of the company in Cam Tuyen Commune. Doanh said he was attacked in a rubber plantation when he was on his way back to a nearby shack by motorbike on May 5, causing him serious injuries in his abdomen.  

According to local rangers, they are domesticated buffaloes, but were let loose in the forest by their owner for a long time, so, they have become wild.

Head of Cam Tuyen Commune's police station Hoang Thanh Lam said that the commune has hired four experienced hunters to trap the herd.

The hunters said that they are determined to corral the herd within seven days.

The hunters will put 120-500 traps in the areas where the buffaloes often come to seek food and sleep. To ensure safety, local residents have been informed not to avoid the trapped areas.
