Addressing the opening ceremony of the referencing course on Wednesday, Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Tran Quoc Tuan, highlighted the importance of the quality of referees to the success of any football competitions, especially the professional tournaments with potential difficulties, challenges and pressure.

In order to build trust among fans, it is important that each referee should always have the awareness to sharpening their professional knowledge and skills, as well as improving their occupational ethics and stance, in order to run tournaments in a heartfelt and lawful fashion, he said.

Tuan added that in its training courses held for Vietnamese referees, the VFF regularly invites FIFA and AFC lecturers to directly guide the learners, aiming to meet the increasing requirements concerning the professionalism of modern football.

The VFF official took the occasion to congratulate Truong Thi Le Trinh on winning the “Best female assistant referee in Southeast Asia” award 2017 and becoming the first female Vietnamese referee to be included in the list of candidates for the mission in the finals of 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

He encouraged Vietnamese referees to make unceasing efforts to brilliantly fulfill their tasks at international football competitions, which not only reflects the prestige and capability of each individual, but also contributes to strengthening trust among fans and domestic football teams into the referencing staff in Vietnam as a whole.

During the six-day referencing course, Vietnamese referees will be updated on the amendments made to the 2017-2018 competition law, whilst practicing referencing methods as well as drawing lessons of experience from the mistakes committed during their task performance at domestic football tournament.
