Janice Phuong, 28, from the Philippines on Friday night became the first foreigner to win the Vietnam Idol 2016.

Janice Phuong, whose real name is Janice A Buco, performed "Hello Vietnam" in Vietnamese and English.

She won 54.25% of the votes and an VND600 million (US$26,700) award.

Viet Thang, a 22-year-old boy from Hai Duong province, ranked second.

Janice Phuong married a Vietnamese man and has lived in Vietnam for seven years. She performed at bars and clubs. She speaks Vietnamese fluently.
