Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung paid an official visit to Cuba from August 23-25 with the aim of shoring up financial and trade partnership between Vietnam and Cuba.

During his talks with Cuban Minister of Finance and Prices Lina Olinda Pedraza Rodriguez on August 24, Dung said the two financial ministries need to maintain and improve the efficiency of existing cooperation mechanisms to promote economic, trade and investment collaboration between the two countries in correspondence with their sound political relations.
He recommended that both sides focus cooperation on taxation management and reform and human resource training for their state treasuries as part of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation for 2016-2020.
Minister Dung also urged the two sides to push forward with joint work to implement specific contents and projects under the cooperation framework of the Vietnam-Cuba Inter-Governmental Committee.
For her part, Minister Lina Olinda Pedraza Rodriguez highlighted the achievements in experience sharing and negotiations of investment projects between the two countries.
She proposed strengthening cooperation in the customs sector as Cuba seeks to ensure safety and security for international flights while carrying out its open-door policy.
The two sides can also consider signing cooperation programmes to promote experience sharing, delegation exchanges and joint activities in fighting smuggling and other sectors of mutual interests, she said.
The same day, Minister Dung met with Vice President of the Council of Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, who is also Minister of Economy and Planning.
On the occasion, the Ministry of Finance sent a group of tax specialists to Cuba to share experience in tax management.
