Four members of a family were killed when a major fire broke out at 12:30am on Sunday at house No 1686 on Provincial Highway 10 in HCM City’s Bình Thành District.

The victims were identified as Nguyen Xuan Trang, 26, her brother Nguyen Xuan Trí, 23, and her 5-year-old twin daughters Nguyen Tuong Van and Nguyen Tuong Vy.

All doors were locked from the inside at the time the fire broke out, preventing the neighbours from breaking into the house to rescue the victims.

Eleven fire trucks and 70 firefighters and police were deployed to the scene. The fire was extinguished 30 minutes later.

The victims’ bodies were found lying close to each other on the mezzanine of the house, according to Colonel Huỳnh Văn Quyến, head of the district’s Fire Prevention Police.

The cause of fire is under investigation.
