The live audition of the competition will take place at Soul Live Project Complex in District 3, HCMC on May 17. Those who are three years old and above and confident with their piano performing skills can join it.

The preliminary round audition in Vietnam is part of the International Piano Competition - Your Road to Carnegie Hall preliminary round tour which also includes Bangkok, Taiwan, Singapore, Surabaya and Medan.

“The event is the milestone marking the first time we brought live audition of the International Piano Competition - Your Road to Carnegie Hall to Vietnam,” Pham Doan Ha My, executive director of AMPA Education, said.

“We are delighted and proud of Vietnamese talents. We would like to send the warmest appreciation to our partners Steinway Vietnam and Amberstone Media, who accompany us in the preliminary round in Vietnam.”

Pianist Adam Gyorgy, a world-renowned artist with a fantastic performance of Chopin’s Winter Wind at the opening ceremony of EURO 2012, will attend the preliminary round audition in HCMC as judge.

Gyorgy’s recitals have been described by The New York Times as “playful”, “elegant” and “warm”. Gyorgy is committed to inspiring and creating specialized educational projects for pianists of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.

As part of Gyorgy’s activities in Vietnam, there will be a masterclass where he will show Vietnamese piano students some of the common performing mistakes and how to improve their piano performing skills.

Gyorgy said, “Vietnam has a great tradition in piano teaching and learning. My collaboration with AMPA Education on educational initiatives goes back for years. We have introduced a special summer program for young piano talents in Vietnam in the past years where these talents have a chance to learn from international professors during a summer program in Hungary which has been highly successful.

“The competition aims to bring opportunity and experience to Vietnamese kids from a very young age to bring their talents to the world most prestigious stage. I remember how life changing it was for me to perform at Carnegie Hall, starting in the small hall and graduating from the big hall. The competition offers this unique opportunity for teachers and students. I hope that many kids join and compete in New York at the end. The winners will play in Carnegie Hall’s Weill recital hall which has an amazing history.”
