Vietnamese fishermen are rescued after spending half a day drifting at sea

According to an officer at the Tho Chau Border Guard Station, the fishermen had been contracted to fish in Vietnamese waters for two months with a salary of VND13 million each.

Following three weeks at sea, the boat’s owner requested that they move to Cambodian waters. Upon expressing their disagreement with the plan, an argument broke out with 11 of the crew deciding to jump overboard to escape.

After spending half a day drifting at sea, 10 of the fishermen were rescued by Nguyen Huu Huy, 41, of An Thoi town, Phu Quo Island, who picked them up in his vessel and handed them over to border guards.

The remaining fisherman was earlier saved by a Cambodian fishing boat.

On May 24, the border guard forces completed the procedures to return the fishermen back to their families.
