According to Yonhap News Agency, on September 16, the South Korean Coast Guard announced that all eight individuals aboard the fishing vessel had been rescued.
Unfortunately, three people, including the Korean captain, the chief engineer, and an Indonesian sailor, were declared deceased after being transported to the hospital. The remaining five survivors included three Vietnamese fishermen and two Indonesians.
Upon receiving the report around 7:36am local time, the South Korean Coast Guard quickly deployed rescue teams to the scene.
South Korean authorities are currently investigating the possibility of a collision, as witnesses reported that a 1,618-ton oil tanker had passed close to the fishing vessel before the incident.
"We have not yet identified the foreign sailor who died," an official from the South Korean Coast Guard emphasized. A thorough investigation into the cause of the accident will be conducted once the injured survivors recover.
