Five workers died and four others are missing after falling down with cargo in the Red River in northern Lao Cai Province on Sunday.

According to the province’s Military Command, the workers were transporting iron cargo across the border to China when the accident took place.

Among the victims, the oldest was 46 years old while the youngest was 17. The other three were in their twenties.

According to Dao Van Huong, deputy chief of Bat Xat District’s People’s Committee Office, since the accident took place at the border, border guards and police were cooperating with their Chinese counterparts to search for the missing people.

He said the bodies of the deceased were found on Monday evening and were handed over to their families. — VNS
