The flags of countries and territories participating in the 5th Asian Beach Games (ABG5) were raised in a ceremony held at Pham Van Dong Park in the central coastal city of Da Nang on September 22.

The biennial event is set to take place from September 24 - October 3 with the participation of over 4,500 athletes and trainers representing 42 nations across Asia. The athletes will be competing for 172 sets of medals in 14 sports.

ABG5 competition has already commenced with several rounds of Muaythai, which features ten weight categories for men and six for women.

Vietnam is being represented by Nguyen Van Ke Nhon and Nguyen Van Yen in the men’s 51kg and 67kg events respectively. Nhon defeated Jordan opponent Anas Ibrahem Nazal Khai in the opening match to advance, while Yen had to bid an early farewell to the Games following his loss to Iraq’s Akram Hasan Mnahi Al-Qaysi in the first round.

The tournament provides an ideal chance to advertise and introduce Vietnam’s tourism industry as a whole and its central region in particular. On the occasion, Da Nang’s tourism sector is introducing its tours and tourism products to visitors, both at home and abroad.

From September 21, Da Nang has arranged five information booths at three competition clusters: Bien Dong (East Sea) Park, My Khe Beach and Son Thuy Beach, aiming to supply tourists with information on tourism in Da Nang, ranging from tourist attractions to cuisine destinations and spa service providers.
