The three victims are Mong ethnic minority people in Su Pa Hamlet in the north-west District of Sapa.

After getting information from local people, local authorities mobilized nearly 200 people to search the missing victims.

However, only two bodies were found on August 13 due to nightfall, poor visibility and difficult terrain.

The locality provided VND5.4 million for each victim’s family.

Luu Minh Hai, Director of the Lao Cai Hydro Meteorological Forecast Centre, said there have not been heavy rains over recent days but only light rains in some places.

Flashflood related deaths have not been reported in the province for several years, he noted.
