Thousands of Vietnamese football lovers have rushed to Indonesia to cheer on the U23s in their quarterfinal against Syria today, August 27.

This morning flows of the football fans came to Noi Bai International Airport for their flights. 

Nguyen Thien Thuat, 76, from the northern province of Ha Nam said that he went to Hanoi early this morning to ensure he got to the airport on time.

The fans wore red T-shirts with a yellow star or brought Vietnamese flags.

Vietnam Airlines’ flights to Indonesia this morning were full of a festive football atmosphere. The passengers were served with cakes with the Vietnamese flag image on.

The carrier’s flight attendants wore jeans and T-shirts with the Vietnamese flag image printed on, instead of their normal uniforms.

After Vietnam’s Olympic team beat Bahrain to win a ticket to the ASIAD quarter-finals, many travel companies in Hanoi offered tours to take Vietnamese fans to Indonesia.

Local football lovers are excited as this is the first time Vietnam’s male football squad has entered the quarter-finals of the Asian Games.    

The squad will face Syria in the quarter-finals at 7:30 pm tonight, August 27.
