Representatives from Singapore, the UN, and several embassies commended Vietnam’s strategic direction and commitment to innovation, sustainability, and global cooperation, as outlined during the 14th National Party Congress.
On the morning of January 27, under the authorization of the Party Central Committee, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung - together with senior Party officials - hosted a briefing session for foreign diplomatic missions and international organizations in Vietnam, sharing key takeaways from the recently concluded Congress.
Minister Le Hoai Trung began by thanking international partners and friends for their close attention and active interest in the Congress, describing it as a historically significant event. Not only did it evaluate the five-year performance of the 13th Party Congress, but it also marked the beginning of a new era for Vietnam’s development, reflecting the country’s deep-rooted aspirations for progress.
Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung speaks at the briefing on the 14th Party Congress.
According to Minister Trung, the 14th Party Congress successfully fulfilled its agenda, passing a series of pivotal documents and electing the new 14th Party Central Committee, which includes 200 members - 180 full members and 20 alternates. From this, the Politburo was elected with 19 members.
He emphasized that the documents adopted at the Congress were prepared in a uniquely significant context: Vietnam is marking 40 years of Doi Moi (reform) while moving toward major national milestones - the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party and the 100th anniversary of national independence.
Despite the fast-changing and complex global landscape, Vietnam has achieved comprehensive and outstanding progress, with rising international standing and credibility. At the same time, Minister Trung noted the country is candid in acknowledging persistent internal challenges that require ongoing reform and resolution.
A key innovation of the 14th Congress, he said, was the methodical and comprehensive approach to document drafting, which captured the intellect, determination, and aspirations of the entire Party and people. The outcome reflected a mindset of bold reform and strong national resolve to thrive in a new era.
The Congress identified overarching goals: to safeguard peace and stability, promote rapid and sustainable development, improve citizens’ lives, and pursue strategic autonomy with self-reliance and confidence - striving for Vietnam to become a high-income, developed country by 2045.
Among the breakthroughs outlined in the documents are commitments to economic and social development, environmental protection, Party-building as a central pillar, cultural and human development as the foundation, defense and foreign policy as essential drivers, and innovation and digital transformation as the core engine of growth.
The strategy includes five guiding principles, eight major orientations, and three strategic breakthroughs to underpin national advancement.
On foreign policy, Minister Trung reaffirmed that Vietnam will maintain an independent, self-reliant, multilateral, and diversified approach, actively and effectively integrating into the global community. The country will tightly link Party, state, public, police, and defense diplomacy, contributing constructively to global peace, stability, cooperation, and sustainable development.
Vietnam also reaffirmed its appreciation for international support and its commitment to being a proactive, responsible member of the global community.
