On August 7, the Southern Region Radio Frequency Center II under the Authority of Radio Frequency Management, in coordination with the Southern Division of the Department of Technical Operations (A06) and other relevant agencies, detected suspicious frequency signals. They quickly deployed specialized equipment to trace the source.

Using advanced technical methods, the task force located the exact transmission site of the fake BTS and, with local authorities, apprehended the suspect on the spot. All equipment was seized as evidence.

The suspect allegedly drove through multiple routes, broadcasting fraudulent text messages that instructed recipients to click on fake links to pay traffic fines. These links were designed to steal personal data and banking credentials.

The incident occurred on the same day that Ho Chi Minh City Police issued an emergency warning about this new scam tactic, which was widely reported in the media on August 7. Authorities say the method poses a serious threat to information security and undermines the credibility of government agencies.

The coordinated action by the Radio Frequency Center II, A06, and other agencies swiftly halted the scam, preventing its spread and protecting citizens’ data.

The Authority of Radio Frequency Management urges the public never to click on suspicious links in text messages. Any requests for personal information or payment via text should be verified through official government portals.
