From nomination of Fauna & Flora International (FFI), forest ranger Hoang Van Tue are selected Disney Conservation Hero 2017 by the Conservation Fund today.
Forest ranger awarded Disney Conservation Fund
He becomes the first Vietnamese people honored by the international Conservation Fund. The 2017 Disney Conservation Hero is awarded for those who have worked tirelessly to save wildlife, protect habitats and inspire communities to take part in conservation efforts.
Hoang Van Tue is forest ranger in the northern province of Ha Giang. He has been at the forefront of population recovery of the Tonkin snub-nosed monkey in the rugged mountains of northeastern Vietnam. Under his leadership, the endangered primate’s population in Khau Ca increased by 100 percent, reflecting the positive result of many hours of challenging fieldwork and community outreach.
Subsequently, thanks to the efforts of conserving, as per FFI’s calculation in April, 2017, the number of endangered primate in Khau Ca increased to 121, two times higher than in 2002 when it was first discovered.
