Four workers were seriously burned at a steel billet firing kiln of the Viet Nam-Japan Company in Hai Phong City yesterday afternoon.

Vu Huy Ngan, one of the burned said that he heard an explosion when he was checking the kiln at 2pm.

His clothes were razed, while his back and legs were burned.

The victims were sent to Viet Nam-Czech Friendship Hospital in Hai Phong.

Bui Thai Trong, 34, suffered from the most serious burns, covering 75 per cent of his body. He was sent to National Institute of Burns for further treatment.

Another worker suffered burns to 60 per cent of his body.

The other two are recovering. The cause of the explosion is being investigated.
