The three-cushion carom billiards World Cup held in Ho Chi Minh City concluded on May 22 with the overall championship victory going to Frederic Caudron from Belgium.
Cueist Frederic won the final played against Dick Jaspers from the Netherlands with a score of 40-20 after 17 rounds. Despite his excellence in earlier quarter and semi-finals, Dick did not maintain his performance in the decisive stage.
Frederic won the championship and received EUR5,500 prize while runner-up Dick Jaspers pocketed EUR3,500. Vietnamese cueist Nguyen Quoc Nguyen and Marco Zanetti from Italy came in third place earning EUR2,200 each.
Nikos Polychronopoulos from Greece won a prize for the highest score of the tournament (22 points).
During the tourney Vietnamese cueists performed impressively as seen by Nguyen, who managed to make the semi-final, however was disappointingly defeated by Dick with a score of 30-40 after 14 clashes. In an earlier quarter-final against Dick, Ma Minh Cam narrowly lost by a score of 41-43. Meanwhile Duong Anh Vu and Truong Quang Hao ended their campaigns at the 1/16 stage.
The tournament attracted over 140 cueists from 20 countries and territories, including the world’s top players in three-cushion carom billiards in the World Union of Billiards (UMB)’s ranking.
This was the second time Ho Chi Minh City hosted the tournament.
