With its development journey of over 300 years, HCMC boasts many buildings featuring the cultural and artistic values of other parts of the country and other countries, especially France.
These include the Notre Dame Cathedral, the HCMC Post Office, the building of the HCMC government and the Saigon Opera House, among others, which have witnessed the city’s ups and downs.
The Notre Dame Cathedral, designed by architect Jules Bourard, was kicked off in 1877 and completed after three years. It features Roman and Gothic architectural styles.
Meanwhile, the HCMC Post Office was developed between 1886 and 1891 and designed by architect Auguste Henri Vildieu and his assistant Alfred Foulhoux.
The building of the HCMC government, located on Le Thanh Ton Street in downtown HCMC, was designed by architect Femand Gardès.
In addition, the design of the Saigon Opera House was created by Félix Olivier, Ernest Guichard and Eugène Ferret. Its architecture was influenced by the flamboyant style of the French Third Republic.
