In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year, growers in Tay Tuu are busy harvesting as market demand rises sharply.
At 4 p.m., while preparing bundles of flowers to deliver to the night market, Dinh Van Tai shared that chrysanthemums are fetching high prices this year, sold wholesale to traders at 3,000 VND per stem.
He noted that prices had already risen before the Kitchen Gods’ Day and continue to climb as Tet approaches, creating what he calls “a warm and abundant” year for local farmers.
Tai added that his family has two plots of land dedicated to flowers, mainly dahlias and chrysanthemums.
He said that if prices remain stable through the holiday, his household could earn up to hundreds of millions of đồng from this season.
The lily field belonging to farmer Ha has also been sold in advance to traders at a favorable price, requiring only one afternoon to harvest and deliver the entire crop.
Ha shared that lilies at the garden are priced at 310,000 VND for a bundle of ten stems.
He explained that although seed costs and fertilizer prices rose significantly this year, the overall season has still been highly profitable for Tay Tuu growers.
To ensure the lilies bloom at the right time for Tet, they were planted three months earlier in greenhouse conditions.
This type of flower commands a high price due to its durability and fragrant scent, making it a popular choice among families.
Dahlia stems are selling for 10,000 VND each, and farmer Vu Thi Chinh was busy harvesting them in the late afternoon.
She said dahlias are among the most sought-after Tet flowers and that this major annual season typically brings each family anywhere from several tens to hundreds of millions of đồng in income.
Roads throughout the village have become lively as residents hurry to harvest and transport flowers to market.
Lilies, chrysanthemums and dahlias remain essential Tet flowers for many households, with a growing period of two to three months and consistently high profit margins.
