As Tet (Lunar New Year) 2026 approaches, the festive buzz has already swept through Xuan Quan flower village in Hung Yen. Crowds of locals and traders are flooding the area to purchase ornamental plants ahead of the Lunar New Year, turning the usually calm village into a vibrant marketplace.

On the afternoon of Sunday, February 1, Xuan Quan - located in Van Giang District - was a hive of activity. Though Tet is still two weeks away, trucks lined the road along the Red River dyke, ferrying goods in and out. Personal vehicles from Hanoi and nearby provinces added to the congestion, as customers rushed in to get the best picks.

Each nursery storefront had trucks waiting to load flowers destined for provinces across northern Vietnam - and even as far south as Nghe An and Ha Tinh.

Pham and his wife, who run a flower business in Hai Phong, were seen loading 400 pots of roses, 30 azalea trees, and other popular species onto their truck. “Flowers in Xuan Quan are affordable and varied, making it ideal for sourcing,” Pham said.

Across the village, customers crowded around familiar Tet staples: cúc mâm xôi, moth orchids, roses, and a host of garden decorations.

Xuan Quan remains one of the biggest flower-growing regions in northern Vietnam, supplying the Hanoi market and surrounding provinces every Lunar New Year.

Ngoc Anh from Hanoi shared that she had already visited the market four times in the past week. “There’s so much choice, and the flowers are gorgeous,” she said. “Every visit puts me in the Tet spirit. I use these flowers to decorate both my home and garden.”

From Hai Phong, shopper Pham Thu Thao made a full-day trip to Xuan Quan and nearby Bat Trang pottery village. “Even after buying quite a lot, I only spent about $80,” she noted. “The variety and pricing here are excellent, and I’ve already mapped out how I’ll decorate my house for Tet.”

According to Hien, owner of a local nursery, her family grew around 10,000 pots of cúc mâm xôi and pico chrysanthemums this season. These have become popular in recent years for Tet décor. But with rising costs for fertilizer, materials, and labor, prices have edged up slightly. Cúc mâm xôi now sells from $3 to $20 per pot, depending on size.

Most flowers sold in Xuan Quan are grown in nearby villages, with some special varieties brought in from other regions. Thanks to its role as a wholesale market, prices remain competitive.

Carnations expected to bloom in the next week are selling at around $0.50 per pot - perfect for the holiday season.

Some nurseries noted that although current prices remain steady, they expect a 10–30% increase as Tet nears, especially for rarer or larger specimens. White Jade Scent orchids, imported from Kunming, China, are particularly in demand, currently priced between $18 and $20 per pot.

Despite complex weather in 2025 - including prolonged rain across the north - Xuan Quan’s flower supply remains robust, thanks to greenhouse systems and seasoned farming experience.
