According to fresh reports from South Korean media, the device is expected to arrive next year as part of Samsung’s effort to reinvigorate a flagship series increasingly criticized for playing things too safe.

The most surprising detail revolves around the display size.

The Galaxy S27 Pro is rumored to feature a 6.47-inch OLED screen - a size never before seen in the history of the Galaxy S series.

That positioning would place it directly between the standard Galaxy S model and the larger Plus or Ultra versions, effectively creating an entirely new category inside Samsung’s premium smartphone ecosystem.

A carefully calculated screen size

South Korea’s ETNews reports that Samsung is currently developing as many as four Galaxy S27 models.

Among them, the Galaxy S27 Pro is said to carry the unique 6.47-inch display, larger than the base model but noticeably more compact than the Ultra version.

If accurate, Samsung appears to be intentionally targeting users who want flagship-level hardware without carrying around an oversized device.

In recent years, premium smartphones have steadily grown larger.

Many Ultra-branded devices now approach 6.9 inches, making them cumbersome for daily use.

Meanwhile, standard flagship versions are often stripped of too many premium features in order to differentiate them from Ultra models.

The Galaxy S27 Pro could become Samsung’s solution to that problem.

Rumors suggest the device may inherit most of the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s specifications while removing the S Pen.

That would potentially allow users to enjoy top-tier cameras, flagship processors, larger batteries and premium displays without dealing with the Ultra model’s bulkier frame or stylus-focused design.

It is a strategy that closely resembles Apple’s highly successful iPhone Pro lineup.

Apple currently offers two premium Pro models - a more compact version and a larger Pro Max variant.

Both devices deliver nearly identical flagship experiences, differing mainly in screen size and battery life.

That formula has helped Apple dominate the high-end smartphone market for years.

According to first-quarter 2026 market data, the top three best-selling smartphones globally were reportedly the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

By contrast, Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra failed to break into the global top 10.

More strikingly, Samsung’s best-selling smartphone was reportedly the budget-oriented Galaxy A07.

The figures underline a difficult reality for Samsung.

The company remains extremely strong in the mass-market segment, but its flagship Galaxy S lineup has struggled to generate the same level of excitement as Apple’s premium iPhones.

Could the Galaxy S27 Pro become the missing piece?

Taken together, current leaks suggest Samsung is building one of its most diversified flagship lineups yet.

The standard Galaxy S27 may reportedly feature a 6.27-inch display, while the Pro version lands at 6.47 inches.

The Edge model is rumored at 6.56 inches, the Plus around 6.66 inches and the Ultra nearly reaching 6.89 inches.

Combined with foldable devices such as the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold, Samsung would effectively cover nearly every major screen-size preference in the premium segment.

The move may signal a broader strategic shift.

Rather than focusing only on processors or camera hardware, Samsung appears increasingly interested in tailoring devices around real-world user preferences and ergonomics.

In that context, the Galaxy S27 Pro could become especially appealing for users who want Ultra-like performance and camera quality without needing an S Pen or carrying an excessively large phone.

The bigger question, however, is whether one new “Pro” model alone can truly deliver the breakthrough Samsung needs.

Over the past several years, the company has faced growing criticism for incremental upgrades, minimal design evolution and camera improvements that feel more like refinements than major innovations.

Samsung previously attempted to stand out with the Galaxy Edge concept, but that experiment never fully achieved the impact the company hoped for.

The Galaxy S27 Pro may therefore represent Samsung’s next major test.

If the company successfully delivers an Ultra-level experience inside a more practical, compact and competitively priced device, the Galaxy S27 Pro could very well become the new star of the Galaxy S family.
