The number of videos with content related to gambling ads on TikTok has decreased considerably compared with three months ago, when VietNamNet reported about the existence of toxic content on the platform.

Previously, there were up to hundreds of such videos, but now the number is very small. Analysts say that this is a big change of the social network after it was criticized by the public and inspected by appropriate agencies.

Meanwhile, the contract is seen on Facebook: the content related to gambling games and ads have been flooding the social network under different forms. One just needs to type ‘Tai Xiu’ on the search box to receive many results about suggested forms of advertisements for this type of gambling, from livestream to sharing tips to play. All are created to attract players and exist on the social network.

The same will also occur if typing ‘game bai doi thuong’. Hundreds of groups and fanpages on Facebook will appear, introducing different types of games, including links to download games, and introductions to hunt codes and other necessary information.

To attract more players, many games even give VND100,000-150,000 to players when they download and register to play games for the first time. The games of this type are also introduced via the videos at Facebook’s ‘watch’ or ‘reels’ features.

Facebook even allows gambling games to run ads blatantly. Many people complain that they feel uncomfortable when ads turn up at moments when they are surfing on social networks, though they are not watching anything related.

“I don’t search or watch anything related to gambling, but ads about gambling continuously turn up,” Le Hoang Minh, a Facebook user in HCM City, said.

According to Le Quang Tu Do, head of the Authority for Broadcasting and Electronic Information (ABEI), an arm of the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), Facebook has recently removed 484 fanpages advertising gambling games.

However, VietNamNet reporters still can find hundreds of groups, fanpages and videos advertising this type of gambling, and even allowing service providers to run ads.

Khoi Nguyen, a provider of services on Facebook in HCM City, said it is very difficult to eliminate the type of ads for gambling, because there are many ways to circumvent the laws and exploit the vulnerabilities of the system.

For example, when running gambling ads, if only posting videos or images, without related contents, Facebook’s automatic scanning systems are not able to discover them. After that, the ad runners will access the ads and make comments to introduce services to users.
