The UN Future Summit, scheduled for September 22-23, precedes the High-Level Week of the 79th UN General Assembly, which will open on September 24. Under the theme "Multilateral Solutions for a Better Future," the summit aims to advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and tackle climate challenges while strengthening global governance.

Welcoming the delegation at JFK Airport were Vietnam’s Ambassador to the U.S., Nguyen Quoc Dung, his wife, Vietnam's Ambassador to the United Nations, Dang Hoang Giang, and other embassy officials.

This visit marks a significant step in reaffirming Vietnam's contributions to the UN, demonstrating the country's active engagement in addressing both regional and global challenges.

Vietnam has consistently been a responsible and active member of the United Nations, contributing to global peacekeeping efforts and serving on various UN bodies, including the Human Rights Council (2023-2026), the International Law Commission (2023-2027), and as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

The visit also coincides with the first anniversary of the upgrade in Vietnam-U.S. relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and comes as both nations prepare to celebrate 30 years of diplomatic ties in 2025.

This occasion offers an opportunity for both sides to reflect on the successes of their upgraded partnership and discuss strategic directions for sustaining positive, stable, and practical development in the coming years.

According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang, General Secretary and President To Lam will deliver key speeches at the Future Summit and the 79th UN General Assembly. He will also hold bilateral meetings and attend other significant events.

Vietnam’s Ambassador to the U.S., Nguyen Quoc Dung, noted that Mr. To Lam’s schedule is packed with meetings and engagements, including interactions with U.S. government officials, business leaders, scholars, and members of the overseas Vietnamese community.

One notable event during the visit will be a celebration marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the U.S. and the first anniversary of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. General Secretary and President To Lam will also deliver a major policy speech at Columbia University, further strengthening ties between the two countries.

Many other delegation members will also engage in bilateral activities with U.S. counterparts during this visit, enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
