Security defence tasks are of paramount importance for Ha Noi, which is a major political, economic and cultural hub and also the heart of the nation, Party General Secretary Nguyen PhuTrong said.

The leader, who is also the Secretary of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks during his visit to the High Command of Ha Noi on New Year's Day.

While informing the Party chief on the High Command's performance, Commander Nguyen Doan Anh said the High Command proactively advised local authorities on the implementation of defence-military missions, maintained combat readiness and kept a firm grasp of the local situation.

The unit effectively coordinated with other forces to ensure absolute safety during critical political events and major anniversaries, as well as national security, social order and safety, and defence mission accomplishments, the Major General said.

It also played an active role in natural disaster prevention and mitigation, as well as search and rescue activities, helping to minimise property losses and deaths, he added.

Applauding the High Command's achievements, the Party leader emphasised that a number of important events are on the horizon, such as the 12th National Party Congress and the National Assembly and all-level People's Council elections.

He asked Ha Noi's armed forces to be fully aware of the significance of national protection, which requires them to firmly grasp the situation and devise timely and appropriate response measures.

The forces must completely obey the direction and leadership of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence, ultimately guaranteeing peace and favourable conditions for development, he said.

He said that local officers and soldiers must incessantly improve their political firmness, master the use of specialised equipment and techniques, and promote combat readiness, making them deserving of the Party, State and people's trust and contributing to the development and protection of the capital city and nation.
