Portrait of General Vo Nguyen Giap appeared for the first time on the cover of the Time Magazine on June 17th 1966, a year after the US sent a large number of soldiers to South Vietnam.

The article for the cover was about the life and career of General Giap, emphasizing Vietnam’s victory over 12,000 French troops in Dien Bien Phu in 1954. This victory made the Vietnamese General famous worldwide.

The title of the cover image is "Days of death in Vietnam," accompanied with an article about the fear of the Americans in South Vietnam, when more than 36,000 liberation soldiers simultaneously attacked hundreds of places, stretching from Quang Tri in the central Vietnam to Phu Quoc island off the coast of the Mekong Delta.
