German baritone, Matthias Goerne will give performances at Hanoi Opera House on November 11-12.
He will perform “Kindertotenlieder” (Songs on the death of children) by Gustav Mahler and the Symphony No. 8 by Franz Schubert, together with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra. The concert is conducted by Honna Tetsuji.
“Kindertotenlieder” (Songs on the death of children) is a song cycle composed by Gustav Mahler between 1901 and 1904.
The cycle is based on poems with the same title by Friedrich Rückert, in which the writer processed the loss of two of his children.
“The Great” Symphony No. 8, is a late work by Franz Schubert. This composition is considered as Schubert’s crowning symphonic work.
Robert Schumann praised the “masterly technique” and “heavenly length of the symphony”.
The German baritone Matthias Goerne is one of the most internationally sought-after vocalists and a frequent guest at renowned festivals and concert halls.
He has collaborated with leading conductors and orchestras in Europe, America and Asia. He is an Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Music in London.
A native of Weimar, he studied with Hans-Joachim Beyer in Leipzig with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.
