Though a simulated flight showed somewhat unsatisfactory results, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has stated it still believes in the feasibility of the route between Hanoi and HCM City over Laos and Cambodia airspace.

 Trial results on the newly proposed Hanoi-HCM City air route through Laos and Cambodia show that the route is 85km shorter, saving five minutes of flying time and 190kg of fuel, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) reported on September 4.

A Hanoi-HCM City direct air route has come closer to reality as the Cambodian and Lao governments have pledged to create favorable conditions for Vietnam to use Cambodian airspace on the route.
