The government has approved the establishment of a Fund for Vietnam Sea and Islands, aimed at promoting activities of the national sea and islands sovereignty protection.

The Fund for Vietnam Sea and Islands will use the remaining money from the For Beloved Spratly Islands. The fund will also call on financial donations from enterprises of all sectors as well as individuals from inside and outside the country.

The prime minister has asked the Ministry of Defence to assign a ministerial official to be head of the fund management board.

The Fund for Vietnam's Sea and Islands is expected to raise awareness among all sectors, localities and Vietnamese people at home and abroad of the importance of Vietnam’s seas and islands.

It is also hoped to help bring Resolution on Vietnam's Maritime Strategy by 2030 and a vision to 2025 into reality, mobilising society to protect sovereignty over territorial waters, islands and continental shelf.
