A love story built over six years

A video capturing the groom stepping onto a stool during the wedding has attracted widespread attention on TikTok, drawing more than 700,000 views and over 11,000 likes.

Standing 1.82 meters tall, the bride naturally stood out in every photograph. Her groom, who is 1.67 meters tall, occasionally stepped onto a small stool so they could take more balanced wedding portraits, creating a series of memorable and amusing moments.

The couple are Kha Ai, born in 2000 and from Dong Thap Province, and Vi Dan, born in 1997 and from Ho Chi Minh City. Although their wedding took place in the bride's hometown in May 2026, the images have only recently gone viral on social media.

"I never imagined that these sweet moments from our wedding would attract so much attention," Kha Ai said with a smile.

Their six-year relationship is an unconventional but enduring love story. They met in 2020 through mutual friends while Kha Ai was working in Dong Thap and Vi Dan was living in Ho Chi Minh City.

At first, they communicated only through text messages and had no idea about each other's height. What drew them together instead was their shared outlook on life, love and marriage. Their simple, heartfelt conversations gradually brought them closer.

Once they realized their feelings, Vi Dan traveled to Dong Thap to meet Kha Ai in person. Seeing each other for the first time, both were surprised by the height difference and even laughed at the unexpected contrast.

"But that wasn't nearly as important as how well we connected. That's how we became a couple," Kha Ai recalled.

The Dong Thap native admitted that she initially felt self-conscious about her height. Since childhood, she had always been noticeably taller than her peers and often attracted attention wherever she went. Standing beside a man shorter than herself made her worry about curious looks from strangers.

"But he has always been confident, and he gave me that confidence too. He holds my hand whenever we're out together and reminds me to enjoy our happiness instead of worrying about what other people think," she said.

The couple maintained a long-distance relationship for six years. Every week, Vi Dan traveled the roughly 60-kilometer journey to visit his girlfriend one or two times because he did not want distance to weaken their relationship. When Kha Ai became seriously ill, he stayed by her side every day, caring for her with such dedication that even those around them were deeply moved.

Like many couples, they also faced moments of conflict and even talked about breaking up. But Vi Dan's patience and calm approach ultimately brought them back together.

Lighthearted moments from the couple's wedding celebration.

Their height difference has led to plenty of amusing situations over the years. They rarely took photos together because it was difficult to find flattering camera angles. Whenever they wanted keepsake pictures, they had to carefully choose locations or poses to make the difference appear less obvious.

For their pre-wedding photo shoot, the photography team was surprised by their height gap. Kha Ai asked them to prepare a low stool so her fiancé could stand on it for more balanced photographs.

"Sometimes he remembered to stand on the stool, and sometimes he forgot, so our wedding album ended up with all kinds of photos. Looking back at them now is actually quite funny," she said.

On their wedding day, Kha Ai deliberately wore flat shoes. During the traditional family ceremony and while taking commemorative photos, she asked her husband to stand on a 25-centimeter (about 10-inch) stool so they could capture more harmonious pictures. Vi Dan happily agreed.

"For most of the wedding, we were simply ourselves because our family and friends were already used to our height difference," Kha Ai said.

The moment that moved the bride most deeply came when her mother walked her down the aisle to her groom before the couple performed the traditional family ceremony in front of both families.

In that moment, their six-year journey together reached a joyful milestone. They began a new chapter, building the family they had long dreamed of creating.
